I love Blue,aint talking about the movie here but blue as in blue & can host a whole world of reasons for this love. For one baby blue is the color that completes a soft or deep baby pink, love the varied sky blue hue'd depth my room takes done up in everything blue(right from drapes to my handtowel& if there 's a tiny WTP embroidered in the corner,fantastic!)

Oh there are many more valid reasons to say the least but here im an eager beaver for all things 'velvet',here referring to the red velvet cake tweeked(loved the way heather used this on her site,yeah am looking for blogs ,love the present one,my second,from yummy lolly but its been more than 24 hours customizing clickable pages under my heading,learnt a little around &edited the html but i want clickable pages not just add elemnts.tweek reminds me tweety who i love ,absolutely no connection here) in to blue velvet cake,but not only for the above reasons,more coz have absolutely not a drop or gel drop of red food color & am too far from civilization to pic up some(besides i not having transport & hopes of laying hands on my dream gel color) but then my heart 's already set on all things velvet & my buttermilk(added white vin to half & half) stands waiting on my kitchen counter,almost seems like i'm perfecting sour cream,didnt i say almost ie not quite there yet...

dont have baking soda either which seems like a ingredient necessary for all that fizz & aint sure of some soda powder in my pantry. Am i done with my editing????........no,no,no,....another one please....what color will coco powder gimme with baby blue now...well next best grated (v .finely)white chocolate(selbourne),will it work..will have to wait & watch....tastetest my senses ie..of sight & taste!






Now went thru a couple of sites to whiff a recipe good,most of them have the buttermilk,vinegar,red food coloring required to the give the tradional red velvet hue...
now i relate velvet & red to love & hearts so had to dig in my heart shaped mould,so what if its blue,its the thought that counts at the end of the day,aint it?its in a good way ofcourse &my love for baking is after all a faithfull(i love that song,so do mom &dad) to the end ,love affair.

ok my blue velvet heart sits in the oven along with a few sample muffins(though i so would have loved it to be heart shaped too).couldn picture before it went in to the oven coz the sun playing hide &seek,i depend on my lit window sill for pictures,the way light behaves is more important than my clicking really but i aint complaining coz the weather's so lovely,a real respite from the dusty heat....so save that for later!

THE VERDICT is out,from my side this,a truly yummy cake ,buttery & sweet just the way i love ,moist & soft with a crumb that not too tight....all in all a winner. Am so glad i went with the recipe from bhg.com(better homes&gardens).looks cute too,will take pictures with the first sunrise rays(ok,ok,a little later).The milk thickened flour sits in the fridge for a great cooked buttercream...buttercream sets me drooling anyway.

WHAT YOU NEED /SHOPPING LIST

95 grams butter
1 cup +2tbh sugar
1tsp vanilla extract
1.5tbh fav blue color(its a blue velvet cake remember)
1.5 eggs
1.5 cups a.p. flour
2tbh white cooking chocolate grated fine(
make it very fine,i'm replacing coco powder here to uphold my baby blue color but i do always wonder if white choco powder exsists,if not what is dried milk for?)

3/4th cup buttermilk(i added a tsp ofwhite vinegar to half & half,kept aside for half an hour)
3/4 tsp baking soda(i used powder)
3/4 tsp white vinegar


NOTES: everything at room temp. u can add vinegar to milk or half& half if u dont already have buttermilk .as u keep it for around half an hour or even more ur butter & eggs will come to room temp.


OK SO LETS BEGIN....GO ....


1)if u have a stand mixer u can set the oven to 180*c now,i rely on my hands so i take a little longer so set the oven somewhere inbetween.
2)greased my heart mould & 4 muffin moulds(ok ok,i did this last)anything is ok as long as u dont feel more than 3/4 or save some soda for the spills...:-)
3)Now i got beating my already soft butter till light & creamy.
4)next the sugar joined in alongwith the vanilla extract(smells ......wowoweeee)&  beat some more......(i alternate with left hand too so both get equal exercise &  none have a chance to complain),
5)continued beating & added the eggs ,the first one,beat in well. Then the next half & beat in well again.
6)Now alternate the sifted flour with buttermilk & tip in the white choco too. Beat till just well combined(on a stand mixer on low medium).
7)Nowz an exciting fizzy part,combine the white vinegar with soda & dont take too long admiring the fizz.....
(i smelled it too,u know the eno fruit salt?now u know what goes into that,the vinegar mus have contributed to the limey 'aroma')tip in the batter & combine again.
Well the prepared pans are waiting so lets not keep them & the oven waiting any longer.

Bake till the aroma fills ur home&springs back to touch.


cool in the pan ( i cooled it in the oven ,shut ofcourse,for awhile before i turned it,covered with foil paper,seals in moisture ,to cool completly)


one is sure THE FROSTING NOW...this different


WHisked together in a pan 3/4 cup,half & half mixed with milk,u can use whole milk alongwith 1/6 cup flour.


Whisked as was cooking,first on medium,then on low heat. add a pinch of salt.


Transfer to a bowl,cling wrap &  refrigerate.


Beat 90 grams butter with 1/2 cup icing sugar &  a tsp vanilla extract till very light & fluffy.next add only half of the cooked milk mixture & beat till smooth.

Blue velvet was a big hit out here & if u plan to watch "BLUE" do carry a slice for a quick bite ,if ur neighbouring multi-plex allows u to tag along ur own bites ie...ours DON'T
